Some Country Customs are still alive in the UK

Yes we still celebrate the seasons and special occasions in the United Kingdom with ‘Morris Dancing’ in the street.

At this local festival, we were delighted to see the whole family joining in the fun.

Even Grandpa, who was having a whale of a time, as the ‘Molly Dancer’ in a pink dress.

They were dancing to say thank you to their Gods for a successful harvest; and I trust ‘The Folks Upstairs’ will be pleased with their efforts, and give them an abundance of energy to keep up the good work.

Traditionally, many Morris Dancers, wear ‘Blacked-Up Faces’ to avoid recognition.... And you’d be surprised to know how many professional and high profile citizens, are willing to ‘Black-Up’, and thereby change their personality, in order to take part in these village revels.

Good Luck to them all, I say... It’s so good to see people willing to keep the Old Ways alive!

I just wish I was fit enough to dance with them... But I’ll just have to make do, with tapping my feet to these very haunting, rhythmic beats, that remind me of my youth.

Believe it or not... But the bells worn by the Dancers... That gives their Dancing a jingling music of it's own.... Are worn to frighten off us 'Wild Folk'.

It's a Folk Memory Idea that has been handed down since Pagan Times... And it still doesn't work!

If anything, It attracts us instead of frightening us away.

But don't let them frighten YOU off... Please Bookmark this Blog and come back again soon.
